The Canadian Advocacy Guide: How to Make Your Voice Heard

How to make your voice heard.

A friend of mine in Ottawa — and one of the best political journalists I know — once wrote down the rules of everything political in the capital. People call them “Wells Rules,” by Paul Wells. I’ll never reach his level, but here and over the next few weeks I want to pass along what I’ve picked up about how the political world actually works.
This is the first guide in that series. It covers two things that go hand in hand: contacting and lobbying elected officials, and organizing a grassroots campaign — both explained through the actual rules and institutions of Canadian politics, federal, provincial, and municipal.
